Miso Soup is a great starter when having Sushi. It is basically a soup made from soya bean paste, it is high protein and low in fat. In the UK, you can buy "Sanchi" Instant Miso Soup in Waitrose we haven't seen it anywhere else. One sachet per person is plenty you can also add some chopped green tips of spring onion and also a splash of soya sauce to enhance the flavour.

To serve the miso soup it is best in a small bowl or if you are really want the full experience you can serve the soup in an authentic Japanese soup bowl (example pictured above). The right way to drink miso soup is straight from the bowl to your lips no spoon required (slurping is acceptable).
